Protect Your Argo Fuel System

Sta-bil marine grade fuel stabilzer Doc's Full Bore Outdoor

Why Sta-Bil 360 Marine is Essential for Your Argo

For Argo 6x6 & 8x8 amphibious owners, the machine isn't just an ATV; it’s a vital tool for traversing swamps, lakes, and rugged terrain. However, the very environment these "Xtreme Terrain Vehicles" thrive in, high moisture, humidity, and any length of storage is a silent killer for their fuel systems. Whether you have a carbureted Frontier or a fuel-injected Aurora, using a high-quality stabilizer like Sta-Bil 360 Marine is the difference between a reliable trek and being stranded before you ever leave the garage.

The number one tech support call we get is, "My Argo will crank but there isn't fuel getting to the carburetor or injectors", the result a gummed fuel pump, and with most electric fuel pumps costing over $300, a couple ounces of Sta-Bil Marine Grade formula could have prevented the headache.

1. Combating the "Marine Climate" Inside Your Tank

Argo XTVs often feature plastic fuel tanks that vent to the atmosphere, allowing moisture to condense inside. Standard gasoline today is typically blended with up to 10% ethanol (E10), which is hygroscopic—meaning it actively pulls water out of the air, even non-ethanol fuel degrades within months and causes varnish.

  • Vapor Technology: Unlike standard stabilizers, Sta-Bil 360 Marine releases a specialized corrosion-inhibiting vapor that coats the entire fuel system above and below the fuel line, protecting the tank walls and sending unit from rust.
  • Water Removal: It contains industry-leading agents to demulsify and remove water, preventing the dreaded "phase separation" where water and ethanol sink to the bottom, causing the engine to ingest a corrosive, non-combustible mix.

2. Preventing "The Big Three" Fuel Failures

Without treatment, ethanol-blended and low octane fuel begins to degrade in as little as 30 days. This degradation leads to three primary mechanical nightmares:

The Varnished Carburetor

As fuel evaporates, it leaves behind a sticky resin known as varnish. In an Argo’s carburetor, this gunk clogs the tiny "jets" responsible for fuel delivery and can clog fuel pumps.  Sta-Bil 360 marine helps lubricate and prevent fuel pumps from seizing.

  • The Result: Hard starting, surging, or an engine that only runs with the choke on.
  • The Solution: Sta-Bil 360 Marine uses PEA (polyetheramine) cleaners to dissolve these deposits before they can harden.

Clogged Fuel Filters

Ethanol is a powerful solvent that "scours" old gunk and gum off the bottom of your tank. This "released crud" quickly migrates to your fuel filter and older models with the fuel pump behind the seat.

  • The Result: Restricted fuel flow, causing the engine to bog down or die under load.
  • The Solution: By preventing initial corrosion and stabilizing the fuel, Sta-Bil 360 Marine keeps the tank "clean," ensuring your filter stays clear for its intended lifespan.

Poor Injector Spray Patterns

In EFI models, fuel injectors must deliver a fine, misty spray for efficient combustion. Varnish buildup on the injector tip distorts this spray into a "dribble".

  • The Result: Loss of power, poor fuel economy, and rough idling.
  • The Solution: Continuous use of Sta-Bil 360 Marine at every fill-up (1 oz per 10 gallons) keeps these precision components stripped of carbon and gum.

3. Usage and Recommendation

  • Storage: Keeps fuel fresh for up to 12 months, making it perfect for winterizing or off-season storage as todays fuel can degrade in just a few short months.
  • In-Season: Most experts recommend using it at every fill-up in your Argo. Because an Argo often operates at low speeds and high loads, any loss of engine efficiency is immediately noticeable especially if any water is present in the fuel.
  • Concentration: The Marine version is roughly 4 times more concentrated than standard red Sta-Bil, making it a more cost-effective choice for large-capacity users and excellent to prevent oxidation on aluminum carburetors and gumming on fuel pumps and stabilized fuel for up to 12 months.
  • Many customers keep a bottle under the seat of their Argo and any time they add fuel, they have easy access to the Sta-Bil and can add some while fueling to always know their fuel has been treated.

We recommend putting Sta-Bil in all of your outdoor equipment from lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, boat fuel tanks, atv's, wood splitters, and generators for anytime starting performance and fuel system care.
