Where To Buy Argo Parts - From An Argo Specialist

Where To Purchase Argo Parts Blog

Ed Pfeiffelman |

When someone searches “Where to buy Argo Parts”, they’re usually not browsing for fun. They’re trying to fix a machine that’s down, do preventative maintenance, or are searching out a knowledgeable Argo Parts dealer to avoid ordering the wrong part.

This Argo parts buyers guide is written from the field perspective of Ed Pfeiffelman, Argo Technical Specialist since 2008, and the sales and service experience of Doc's Full Bore Outdoor located in Bonduel, Wisconsin, an Authorized Argo dealer and Argo service center since 2019, with certified small-engine service for Briggs & Stratton, Kohler Engines, and Kawasaki Engines.

This is a practical guide to buying Argo parts correctly and not having the wrong parts show up at your home or job site.

The Two Most Ordered Wrong Argo Parts

Two parts cause more wrong orders than anything else:

  • Axle bearings
  • Brake pads

Argo Axle bearings: Inner vs Outer confusion

On Argo amphibious models, inner axle bearings and outer axle bearings have different inner bearing diameters. Customers routinely don't measure or assume incorrectly and order the wrong size.

Worse, many try to substitute a generic over the counter bearing. Standard bearings typically have a single inner seal. In an amphibious machine, water pressure forces past that single seal, contaminates the grease, and the bearing fails quickly.

What matters isn’t just size — it’s seal design for an amphibious environment.

Argo Brake Pads: caliper brand and supersession issues

Over the years, Argo has used brake systems from:

  • Knott Brake Company
  • Grimeca
  • Wilwood Engineering
  • Hayes Performance Systems

Brake pads vary by:

  • Model
  • Model year
  • Caliper brand or type
  • Caliper supersessions over time

Two Argos that look identical can require completely different pads.

The 3 Questions You Must Answer Before Buying Any Argo Part

This is exactly what Ed Pfeiffelman asks every customer:

  1. What model do you have?
  2. What year is it?
  3. What is your VIN or vehicle serial number?

The VIN/serial tag is located on the lower left of the dashboard and models 2002 and newer start with 2DG…. The last 7 digits are enough to identify your exact machine even on older models with a serial number when talking to the dealer.

Most wrong orders happen because owners select the wrong model year in an online diagram or PDF parts catalog without verifying the vin number or serial number.

Why “Farm Store” Chains and Bearings Don't Last on Argos XTV's

Argo amphibious XTVs use a skid-steer transmission. Every left and right turn transfers tremendous torque load through the chains.

Cheap conveyor or implement chain is designed for constant torque, not the shock load of skid steering.

High-quality Argo chains are:

  • Higher grade with better rollers, pins, and steel
  • Pre-stretched for long life

If you install non-pre-stretched chain, you’ll be re-doing the job far sooner than you should.

Argo Chain replacement rules most owners don’t know

  • Replace chains across from each other (left/right) to prevent drift or pulling especially if needing to replace the transmission Idler chains
  • If your chain tensioners are near the last adjustment tooth, replace all chains at once
  • Mixing new and stretched chains causes uneven torque transfer and steering drift

A Better Solution for Argo Axle Bearings and Chains

Through years of failure analysis, Doc’s Full Bore Outdoor partnered with a bearing manufacturer to produce an upgraded exterior axle bearing featuring:

  • High quality dual triple-lipped seals
  • Staked exterior seal to prevent mud intrusion and keep grass from pulling it off
  • Grease and drain port holes on the bearing race 180 degrees apart from each other
  • Prepacked with high quality grease
  • These custom bearings will be available late June 2026

Doc's Full Bore Outdoor also supplies aftermarket high-grade, pre-stretched drive chain kits suited to the Argo torque profile.

What Bad Online Argo Repair Advice Gets Wrong

Forums and social groups are full of well-meaning advice from owners with:

  • Different models
  • Different engines
  • Different years
  • Or guesses based on symptoms
  • Fraudulent Facebook marketplace or group parts listings. Bad for your wallet.

This often leads owners to “throw parts at a problem.”

With 18 years of Argo diagnostics, Ed can usually identify the real issue before a single part is ordered, preventing sore fingers from unnecessary typing, and loss of money from buying parts you do not need.

The Most Common Argo XTV Wear Parts

For Argo Aurora, Argo Avenger, Argo Frontier, or Argo Conquest:

  1. Drive axle bearings
  2. Drive chains
  3. Chain adjuster slider blocks
  4. Steering brake pads
  5. Handbrake service pads
  6. CVT Drive Belt

These are the parts owners are usually trying to source when they search for Argo parts.

That’s where most ordering mistakes originate. Contact us if you are unsure of the parts you need versus ordering the incorrect ones from our competition.

How to Save Money Without Buying the Wrong Argo Parts

Price shopping is common. The problem is downtime from waiting for parts, and ordering twice due to purchasing the incorrect parts.

A quick VIN check and parts review or consultation can often reveal:

  • Parts that can be reused by saving you money
  • Parts you don’t actually need when replacing select components
  • Easy parts kit assemblies instead of individual pieces
  • Newer superseded or updated part numbers for extended durability or fitment

That saves money and your valuable time.

What People Are Really Trying to Fix

When people search “Where to buy Argo parts,” they are usually:

  • Fixing chain/drivetrain wear
  • Replacing failed axle bearings
  • Replacing brake pads
  • Doing maintenance on an older Argo 6x6 or 8x8
  • Frustration from so many manuals and model name changes

The Correct Way to Buy Argo Parts or Accessories

Before you order anything:

  1. Locate your VIN (lower left dash, starts with 2DG.. on models 2002 and newer
  2. Verify model and year.  The 10th digit is your model Year, 6=2006, 7=2007, but if it's a letter, “A” started in 2010, “B” 2011 and forward down the alphabet.
  3. Use the current Digital Argo Parts Diagrams look-up system or the extensive library of Free Argo Manuals which features older model Argo PDF manuals.
  4. When unsure, ask someone who works with these machines daily.

That approach prevents nearly every wrong order and eliminates frustration.

If you ever have doubts, use the Live Chat on our home screen or call Doc’s Full Bore Outdoor of Bonduel, Wisconsin at 1-715-758-2480 for technical support, VIN lookup, and parts verification before you buy.
